LowBall (lowball.golf) · Doughty LLC · Last updated 2026-08-06

LowBall is a golf league app run by Doughty LLC. This policy covers what we collect at lowball.golf, how we use it, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect what the product needs to work, we don't sell your data, and we don't share it with anyone for their marketing.

What we collect

  • Account details — your name, email address, and password (stored hashed). Optionally a profile photo, home course, and tee preference.
  • Golf data — rounds, scores, hole-by-hole stats you choose to track, handicap calculations, games, outings, and trips.
  • Scorecard photos — if you post a score by photo, the image is stored privately and is visible only to you, your playing group, and league admins. Photos are processed by Anthropic's Claude API to read the scores.
  • Phone numbers for invites — when a member texts a friend an invite, the number entered is used to send that invite and, if it goes unclaimed, a few reminder texts. It's stored encrypted only while the invite is open, and deleted as soon as the invite is accepted, expires, or its reminders finish. Full details in Text messages (SMS) below.
  • Payment details — payments for league and trip creation are processed by Stripe. Your card number never touches our servers; we keep only Stripe's reference identifiers and what you purchased.
  • Log and device data — like most websites, our servers keep standard request logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) for security and debugging. We use only essential cookies — the ones that keep you signed in. No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

How we use it

To run the product you signed up for: leaderboards, live scoring, handicaps, games, outings, and payouts math shared with your league; to process payments; to send the messages described below; and to keep the service secure. We don't sell your personal information, we don't run ads, and we don't share your information with anyone for their marketing. The only parties that handle your data are the service providers listed below, acting on our instructions to run LowBall.

Text messages (SMS)

LowBall sends one kind of text message: an invitation, requested by an existing member for a specific friend. A signed-in member enters a friend's name and mobile number on our invite page, and we send that friend a text with a link to set up an account. If the invite goes unclaimed, up to four reminder texts follow over the next week — reminders stop the moment they sign up, the link expires or is revoked, or they reply STOP. There are no marketing texts, ever, and nobody is enrolled in any ongoing messaging list. A public overview of the program — including the invite form as members see it — is on our Text Messaging Program page.

  • Message frequency: one invite message, plus up to four reminders over the following week if the invite isn't accepted. Messaging ends with the invite — recipients are not enrolled in recurring messaging.
  • Message and data rates may apply, depending on your mobile carrier and plan.
  • Opt out: reply STOP to any text from us and you won't receive another. Reply HELP, or email tanner@doughtyinc.com, for help.
  • No sharing: we do not share, sell, rent, or trade your mobile phone number, mobile information, or SMS opt-in and consent data with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third parties, excluding Twilio, our text messaging provider, solely as needed to deliver the message.
  • Limited retention: invite numbers are stored encrypted, used only for the invite and its reminders, and deleted as soon as the invite is accepted, expires, is revoked, or finishes its reminders. They are never reused or added to any list.

Service providers

These providers process data only to provide their service to us:

  • Stripe — payment processing (their policy)
  • Twilio — delivering invite text messages (their policy)
  • Anthropic — AI reading of scorecard photos (their policy)
  • Laravel Forge / DigitalOcean — hosting

Who sees your golf data

Members of your league(s) see your posted rounds, stats, and leaderboard standing — that's the point of a league. People outside your leagues don't. Guests added to a card exist only as a name and scores.

How long we keep things

Account details and golf history stay as long as you have an account, since they're the product. Deleting your account removes your account and personal data. Invite phone numbers are kept (encrypted) only while their invite is open and are deleted once it's accepted, expires, or finishes its reminders, and server logs are kept only briefly for security and debugging before rotating out.

Security

Traffic to lowball.golf is encrypted in transit (HTTPS), passwords are stored hashed, and production data access is limited to what's needed to run and support the service. No internet service can promise perfect security, but we keep the surface small: no ad tech, no data resale, few providers.

Your choices

  • Delete your account any time from Settings — it removes your account and personal data.
  • Reply STOP to any text from us and you won't get another.
  • Email tanner@doughtyinc.com to ask what we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it removed.

Children

LowBall isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we'll remove it.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, we'll note it here with a new date.
